On May 7, 2015, the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) approved the Postal Service’s proposed rate increased for Standard Mail and Periodicals. The new rates take effect on May 31. The PRC has already approved the new First Class Mail rates. They also take effect on May 31.
The PRC’s approval of the rates follows its denial of two previous USPS proposals that were filed on January 15 and March 12. The PRC declined those proposals because discounts for commercial and non-profit mail were not “equal” as required by the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act of 2005 (PAEA), and the rate requests contained numerous other omissions or errors. The approval following the agency’s third proposal was expected by most industry observers.
